BARBER
(U.S.A.)This series began as a result of several transitions in my personal life and creative process. I moved from a suburb of Los Angeles, CA to the downtown area of the city, where many of the older structures and neighborhoods from the beginning of the last century still stand and function as businesses, work spaces and multi-use premises. I also took a creative break from photographing digitally and working exclusively with color imagery. I began with the basic process structure that I would first shoot industrial, manmade subject matter, rewind the film back into the paper, and then expose over those frames with scenery from nature or organically derived subject matter. Frequently these two exposures were done some days apart, so that I would forget what was originally exposed on the frames. I intentionally sought the random/chance, accidental configurations that appear in the imagery in that I took no notes nor kept any record of my first exposures.
This series is both an exploration of process and a journey back to the purity and fundamentals of what first drew me to the medium years ago.
Felando
(U.S.A.)I wanted to build a creative nest where I felt safe and free to create what I could, and now my wax paintings surround me like a protective friend. Once I pour the wax it's all a mystery where it'll go and I love a good mystery, I hope you do too. Not too many people work with melted wax and I like that. I don't like being a follower, I like originality and clarity and it's very clear when you see my work it's not someone else's work. No one taught me how to create this kind of art and that makes me smile. Thanks to my art I'm able to explore new avenues of creativity and I love that kind of creative exploration and playful wandering. It's a pleasant escape; I like melting the wax, I like the scent and looking at art when it's all over. It's like making soups and sauces and the meal lasts for years. When I pour hot wax onto the canvas it melts other wax to create colors regular paint can't match. I'm really happy I'm creating new colors.
